Hahha it has been one week into the semester and i have 5 assignments and 4 projects. Oh wait, or is it the other way round, 4 assignments and 5 projects? Can't remember. hahhaha. well anyway there's a sui bi due today on eportfolio so i have the softcopy to paste here. hahaha. found it so amusing that i wrote about the singapore teaching system and that we are learning irrelevant things =D it's sui bi wad. can write about anything ma... so there it is:

生活在步伐繁忙迅速的新加坡里,学习的定义已渐渐模糊了。新加坡的孩子,个个都有机会读书,自然就不会觉得有书读是个很宝贵的机会。而且新加坡的教育制度非常重视分数及考试,年仅十岁的小四生便要分班,一辈子的命运就在小四的那年,不免会让许多家长给与孩子很大的压力。从小到大,父母就为孩子准备了一连串的补习班,一堆的参考书及课外练习,千叮万嘱孩子们要在考试里得到好成绩,名列前茅。然而,学习就只是为了考试得好分,得到全班第一吗?
化学老师曾提过她在美国教学时的情景:小五的学生上数学课时只是在背五五成发表,而新加坡的同龄生已在学比例,体积,面积,分数等。美国的学生小五时上英文课,学写卖屋通信,工作学历等实用的东西,新加坡的学生却在为了准备小六会考中的作文而上补习课。美国学生考试前与家人到处观光,与朋友去路边滑轮,根本就没有很在意分数。然而,新加坡学生在考试的前一个月就已被禁出门,逼在家里温书,这些都为了考取好成绩。其实,话说回来,新加坡的教育制度虽然确保了学生个个都受教育,并有很多考试来把先天过人的学生找出来发挥潜质,但是,学生们学的东西都是实用的吗?
为工作面试时,老板当然不会给你一份数学卷子让你把里头的数学题全都做完就会得到工作。而除非要当作家,否则学生们也不会需要写作文,学写卖屋通信或建议书来为将来做准备不是更好吗?老板们要的是实际的本领,而不只是书面上的优异成绩,不是吗?
我在杂志上也读过,澳洲的学生不时会在学期里与家人远游,到溪边钓钓鱼,动物园里走走看看,郊外野餐等。他们根本就没有读书的压力,反而是在还没工作前抓紧机会与家人共处。比起新教坡的学生,美国和澳洲的学生并没有很大的压力,在童年时也能尽情地享受美好的人生,那不是一件非常好的事吗?
然而,新加坡这里竞争非常激烈,如果书读不好,就很难有出人头地的一天。所以,每个家长都想尽办法让孩子得到最好的教育,使他们不落在人后。我觉得,这样的局面是不能避免的,但唯一希望的是,家长们不把自己的孩子拿来与其他人比较,因为每个人都是不同的,有自己擅长的地方,是永远都不能比较的。而且,我也希望家长能与孩子说清楚,读书的意义,不是为了考试取好分,而是为了将来在社会做出贡献而作的准备功夫。我这一代的学生就已经这么惨了,无法想象将来的学生的生活会是怎样的,期望他们会有较好的童年吧!

Just found out that i have not posted here for so long. GOSH. Anyway, I'm just here to say that this blog is not dead =DD

I'm so busy about the Youth for Causes project. There is just so much work to do!

Finished the production already and now we need to recruit volunteers for the sales.
